A Brief Account On Nakhla Tobacco

In one of the quite towns in Mid-Delta, affiliated to the towns of the genuine Egyptian countryside, there is an obscure town, through which the calm and life giver River Nile traverses, carrying within its folds elements conveying goodness, growth and hopefulness. Within the range of vision, there are widespread fields of wheat and cotton topped by dovecotes and overshadowed by sun drenched palm trees.

This town is SHEBIN EL-KOM the birthplace of the late SALEH MOHAMED EL-IBIARY, the man who had initiated and established a factory for processing the MU'ASSAL (a mild-tasting tobacco, due to its preparation with molasses, glycerin, fragrant oils or essences) industry in the year 1913.

It was an individual project, a humble one, assuming an Emblem, having been inspired from the enchanting nature of the "Palm Tree", the holy plant introduced to us via the heavenly holy books.

The dream and emblem of that project cherished by the Head of the IBIARY'S Family, was the propagation of this products at level of the small town; and the distribution of his products, by then relied on the direct relationship between the customer and the FACTORY, in its capacity as an outlet for processing and selling, And throughout this long history and for a period running over approx. One century (more than eighty-seven years) management of the factory had been run by the late/ SALEH MOHAMED EL-IBIARY, the great grandfather of the family. Nay, the pioneer who had been managing the factory till 1955.

Such management was entrusted to the second generation of this family, namely / AHMED SALEH EL- IBIARY, who took office after his father, and complemented the march in managing the factory; but with a different vision.

As the succeeded in developing and diversifying products and thus contributing to the emergence of new products in keeping with the Egyptian taste and its requirements; and the first item of such new products being MUASSEL EL - ZAGHLOUL; which has been enjoying subsequently a high standing worldwide And upon the expansion in volume of production, the process of production was separated from those relating to marketing and selling and inauguration of new Branches were Initiated in the large Governorates of Cairo and Alexandria Thereafter and due to the good quality of those products, which have been in high demand among a new category of consumers pertaining to the common people of the public. So much so that NAKHLA products have become so widespread in all Egyptian towns and hamlets, via the large numbers of transportation trucks that have linked the FACTORY with all Governorates in Egypt.

And with the sustained success of the company, Ahmed Saleh El-Ibiary started to think of exporting his products outside the territories of Egypt; and concurrently, studies and researches were initiated to implement this objective. Nevertheless, he passed away on 28th of November 1979, prior to the coming into light of those concepts.

A Brief Account On Nakhla Tobacco Factory

Thereafter, the management of the factory reached the third generation, namely Adel Ahmed El-Ibiary, Chairman of the company's present Board of Directors, who happened to have been assuming management solely; and succeeded in getting over big impediments.

Nevertheless he was having also a sound futuristic vision, i.e. the participation of his brothers in running the company, and employing each one of them at a post appropriate therefor. As he has invited them to abandon their high ranking posts and revitalizing the concept of the Ibiary's Family founder and in implementation of his legacy, being represented in the reunion of members of the family, for complementing the ongoing forward march of NAKHLA Company; thus giving it momentum, pursuant to the force given to it by the group of those reunited brothers.

That was what had actually occurred; as all the sons, each one of whom bearing a portion of the responsibility in running the factory in keeping with their scientific qualifications and their experiences. And they have been working as one integral team; each one of whom in his own specific field of specialization in terms of management, production, sales, exportation, researches and scientific studies.

The legal status of the factory was worked out by way of setting up the NAKHLA TOBACCO Co. in which sons of the late Ahmed Saleh El-Ibiary are comprised, and the company's Board of Directors has been formed under the chairmanship of the eldest son Adel, who has been well prepared, internally and externally, for a period running over ten years to assume this post. As to the other brothers, they were nominated as members on the company's Board of Directors.

At this point, the company commenced a new phase of scientific management and pragmatic expertise.

The opening of the rest of the branches in the Governorates was effected; and the company commenced producing new products in keeping with the variables of the new times. Thus, and for the first time, a new brand of MU'ASSAL (a mild-tasting tobacco) being blended with flavors of fruits, was put on the markets in the Middle East, creating this new product that has brought about such innovative civilized move in the tobacco industry; and thereby making a great stride in this field.

In turn, larger numbers of consumers, extending from the ordinary common nationals of males, up to the higher class of the two genders, males and females. Accordingly, it was quite natural for five-star hotels and similar entities to designate the best halls and distinguished parts therein for presenting such tobacco to their guests. Moreover, diversity of products, reaching more than twenty five brands, comprising over fifty various packets, have been in keeping with all tastes and classes, of which the Egyptian community and the other Arab, European and American communities are being comprised. And with the expansion of the factory and the production halls, the number of workers in such halls has reached over 1800 workers who have acquired higher technical skills. And a Training Center has been established for apprenticing the newly appointed workers prior to having them enrolled in the production halls.

Currently, NAKHLA TOBACCO Co., is singly at the forefront in exporting its products to foreign markets; additionally to local markets and thereby achieving and bringing into light the last dream, cherished by the father prior to his passing away. So it has enjoyed a high standing worldwide in the tobacco industry; and over consecutive years it has been awarded and is still being awarded international golden medals and Orders of Merit as well as the golden highest prizes and testimonials from big European countries, for good quality in the tobacco industry; and for most of the products, currently widespread all over the word. The title deed of the company's Emblem "NAKHLA" has been registered in most countries worldwide.

Notwithstanding the industrial and technological advancement in the tobacco industry, yet the company has only availed itself in the amount required; as the good quality of the products singly made by the company and the manual feature, with which its workmanship has been predominantly characterized has conveyed there into a specific and distinguished taste, with a unique flavor. In other word, NAKHLA products have acquired an international status, and the obscure town has grown into governorate of high standing worldwide, therewith the emblem of NAKHLA and the word "Made in Egypt".
